Game Concept

Overview

Working Title

The title for this project is Bloody Battlegrounds.

Concept Statement

Bloody Battlegrounds is all about fighting through hordes of mutated zombies on the streets of London with one incentive in mind - Money. Shoot, slash, and explode your way to riches by killing the undead.

Game Genre

The game will be a wave based Action Rogue-like. The player will kill enemies to earn money with the ability to purchase and upgrade their gear between waves, with a boss fight on the final wave.

Concept Creation Process

I've been playing Killing Floor recently and while playing I noticed gameplay similarities to Action Rogue-like games such as Vampire Survivors and 20 Minutes Til Dawn, including:

  • Waves of enemies
  • Upgradable weapons purchased with money from killing enemies
  • Enemy variety & bosses
  • Map selection

The idea of translating Killing Floor's mechanics to 2D has stuck with me, and now I'm making it!

Audience and Competitive Analysis

The main audience for this game are for the fans of action rouge-likes that want a little more precision involved in the gunplay.

This genre has exploded in popularity recently which could make it a challenge for my game to stand out in a rather over-saturated market.

Game Treatment and Concept Art

Game Treatment

As you arrive on the run-down streets of London your goal is the same as every other mercenary foolish enough to take on this job. Eliminate the escaped mutant test subjects that now roam these streets. You'll be rewarded handsomely, but don't get too greedy, make sure to stock up on guns and ammo once the trader arrives.

Features:

  • Variety of weapons
  • Unique enemies
  • Multiple maps
  • Satisfying gunplay

Concept Art

The art style I've chosen is largely inspired by Nuclear Throne's simple yet charming characters, but in a more military/apocalypse style.

Environment:

For the environment I'm looking to capture the rundown apocalyptic look of Killing Floor whilst leaning in a more cartoon-y style like Nuclear Throne through the use of pixel art.

A well-written and straight-forward implementation of a 2d killing-floor clone. Concept art section is excellent, and overall the report has done well but more detail needed throughout.
